canary test

The Sky is Calling

canary profile

After three years of design, analysis and ground testing, Bluebird will finally take to the skies with Canary.

This flight aims to validate our in house flight computer Versor, its state estimation and filtering algorithms, as well as provide experience in flight structures design and composite processing.

This will also be the first ever attempt at supersonic aerodynamic guidance by a high school team, the first step in our active controls program. By passing the speed of sound, Canary will help validate our transonic and supersonic aerodynamic models, in preparation for active controls built for significantly more capable rockets in the future.

Propulsion: Cesaroni CTI I540-P Motor

Length: 97 cm

Diameter: 38 mm

Expected Apogee: 2600 m

Expected Peak Velocity: 427 m/s (Mach 1.269)

Recovery: cable cutter

Avionics: Versor, Featherweight Blue Jay, RFD900

At its core, Canary has one goal: demonstrate the viability of our recovery architecture and provide real flight data for us to continually improve our avionics and algorithms.
